The vice president of Winnipeg Airports Authority, Pascal Belanger said that at least one of their direct flights will be for Winnipeg to the Philippines.
According to the latest flight agreement between Canada and Philippines, the number of direct flights offered between both countries will be doubled from 7 to 14.
Manila, Philippines is one of their largest international markets. He said that this will be a great help to the existing Filipino community providing them direct flight to their homeland.
From 2001 to 2006 the Filipino community increased for about 33% in Canada; Winnipeg is the second city in Canada where most Filipinos are concentrated and the home of the oldest Filipino settlement that dates-back on the year 1950. The city of Winnipeg has two areas where Filipinos are mostly settled, namely West End and North End.
Belanger further said that the resume talks about the direct flight will be on the month of July. He added that the Philippine Airlines have also an option to add routes.
